Internally displaced persons

The Project Team is aiming to ensure that internally displaced persons (IDPs) may access their rights in their place or country of origin.

The Project assists the IDPs in the enjoyment of all their Human Rights as envisaged by the applicable international law. However, having in mind the fact that the great majority of unsolved legal cases relate to the right to property, the Project is focusing on provision of legal aid in property related cases, such as:

  • Property restitution
  • Compensation for property seizure
  • Inheritance cases involving property
  • Other property issues (illegal occupation, fraudulent transactions, illegal expropriation etc.)

In addition, our lawyers represent clients and provide legal advice in cases related to rights related to privatization of socially owned enterprises. One of the main tools used by our team of legal experts in their work to assist IDPs is to provide direct representation before courts and other relevant institutions in Kosovo and Metohija.

Further to the provision of legal aid to individual beneficiaries, the Project is focusing on the identification of institutional and normative gaps and problematic practices preventing IDPs from accessing their rights. To this effect, our Legal Officers continuously report on problems encountered in their everyday work and propose solutions on how to overcome them.

Moreover the Project Team holds regular consultations with institutions and organizations which may contribute to finding solutions to overcome the gaps and problems identified.
